I’ve kept up with the Occupy Wall Street movement since I first heard of it. Though real-world obligations keep me from participating, I’ve searched for other ways to contribute, be it raising awareness on social media and in real life, promoting their cause with my art, or (very soon to come) donating. I cheered like-minded peoples taking a stand to balance a political system where laws are created, modified, or enforced for the benefit of wealthy campaign contributors, not constituents.
As time wore on and greater acts of oppression against the protestors took place, I came to see my support lose substance and meaning. Watching one after another of the links below made me feel less like I was involved in some way, and more like a useless spectator – no matter my horror and outrage, I was always at a safe distance.
I’m deeply thankful for all those who continue to take part in OWS protests. Any moment they spend on the street outweighs anything I’ve done all these months from behind my screen.
Some of these links are graphic in their depiction of violence. I’ll tag all the ones that are NSFW.
