Black and White Course at the ACP

I just started a B&W Film course at the ACP . Our teacher is Marco Bok who is a great photographer. I am learning about developing, printing, enlarging Film. It is something I have never learned. In the first lesson we did enlarging in the darkroom which was very exiting.

Putting my “Rayograph” (We did not have any film yet to develop so we whacked some objects on the paper and switched on the enlarger. a technique invented by Man Ray .) into the developer and seeing my creation emerge out of nowhere was amazing. A new love was born. I will post my best shots during this course to the site starting from next week, including my first attempt at rayography. Hope my scanner still works… It has been sitting in a box for 3 years…

I hope you have a look once a while and join me on my journey…

Hey way to go Alex. I work as a darkroom technican and have spent years of my life in and around darkrooms. I love the old ways. Its the closest you can get to alchemy in your ordinary life I reckon. Keep us posted on your progress.

Good on you! This brings back memories – I can still recall seeing my first photo appear in the developing tray and falling in love with photography at that moment :)

nice…... i would love to have the time to do a course…..instead i am paying a professional photographer full time for two weeks to teach me as much as he can…..
it’s a bit of a short cut but mostly i just need to learn some technical lighting skills so we’ll see how it goes….......i will definitely keep up with your progress as you post your pics here….. go for it!

My father used the old cameras where you had to put a cover over your camera and your head while you took the shot, then he used to process them in his makeshift darkroom! I always found it fascinating as a child, but he stopping doing it before i was old enough to ask questions and learn from him.

Great stuff Alex, I can’t wait to see the shots!
