"The Rising" St Peter & St Paul by the Mill by James Key
St Peter & St Paul’s is just behind the Market Square in the historic market town of Olney. It is a fine 14th Century Church and its spire has ten bells in the tower. The lane from the church leads to the 18th century Water Wheel Mill on the River Great Ouse. Canon 50D 1/30 @ f10 ISO 320 Taken at 5am 14.06.11
Olney has historical links with John Newton (author of Amazing Grace) and Henry J Gauntlett (composer of the melody for Once in Royal David’s City). It is also world famous for its annual pancake race first run in 1445 and since 1950, after accepting a challenge , is now run in competition with the town of Liberal in Kansas USA.
Exquisite light ! Love the atmosphere you captured here….
Thanks Ulla. The sun had just risen above the trees behind me, lighting up the church. I love this time in the morning. Also thanks for the fave. Cheers Jim
