Untold Story

One night a long time ago
A different girl, a different person
The facts vary from girl to girl
The circumstances slightly altered
But the story is exactly the same
A person’s worth is taken away
They are shamed and embarrassed
If they speak no one will hear them
If they report nothing will be done
Asking for it, your fault, you are to blame, what did she expect?
That is what you hear, that is what you are told
Hiding from ourselves, shielding the pain
Talking, dealing, crying, always crying
Why? What happened? Who? How?
You seek a solution
You want vengeance
You want those people that pained you, bruised your soul to feel
To consume the same burning inside that eats you alive
To have someone take their innocence away
To bear the shame they thrusted upon you

I push the feelings deep inside
Only letting them to surface when I feel safe
Yet it still stops me cold
Wakes me in the middle of night my body dripping with sweat
My body frozen, my thoughts locked in
My heart shrouded in self doubt and fear
I can still feel, still smell, still hear everything that happened
I still can’t let go of my untold story
