Soils are often not good enough for cropping but can readily support grazing. This land is a small cattle farm. The extent of landclearing is rather obvious.

Despite the man made changes to this landscape over more than a century, the folds in the land, the textures and colours have their own beauty.

Goulburn area of New South Wales, Australia.

Photographed in December 2009 handheld using a Canon 5D. Minimal processing except attention to colour balance. This was one of those occasions when careful exposure and limited dynamic range in the scene made getting a correct exposure relatively easy.

this reminds me of my childhood. thanks nice image

  • Thanks Lois. I grew up as a city boy. I should have listened to the feeling every time I spent time in the bush. I seem to connect with these landscapes. Thinking about moving into the bush!

Nice contrast, Alex; looks pretty dry dowon there?

  • Yes at the time I visited this farm it was very dry although that has its own beauty. I was there only recently – what a difference.
