For years I have been primarily an artist working on Acrylic Mixed Media Paintings and collages. A camera has always been close at hand…for documenting, photo journaling the constant search for imagery, and cataloging my paintings. Most images were photographic sketches to later use in various forms, such as collaging in my paintings or reference points of departure for creating a painting. Quality of the photograph at that time was rarely an important aspect, but the composition and the subject matter was of essence, being an inspiration which initially caught my eye. Once I chose an image it was then altered to abstraction with brushstrokes on a canvas.
At one point in my artistic explorations I discovered that my photographic images may have some merit as Art Work in their own right…no longer only as a means to an end. Further investigation into the wonders of digital cameras and editing programs I became completely fascinated and immersed myself into a new Art Form.
The learning of photographic techniques and editing processes are continuous…but in the end…I am still the Artist Painter behind the lens.
