The Transpacific Yacht Race (Transpac) is an offshore yacht race starting off Point Fermin, San Pedro, near Los Angeles, and ending off Diamond Head Lighthouse in Honolulu, a distance of around 2,225 nautical miles (2,560 mi; 4,121 km). Started in 1906, it is one of yachting’s premier offshore races and attracts entrants from all over the world. The race is organized by the Transpacific Yacht Club.

    Wonderful result for Dorade Alex and a great shot….I sailed in the 1994 Kenwood Cup and went back in 1995 as delivery crew on, what was then called Exile, from Hawaii to San Fran. I think Exile was later named Blue Yankee by its later US owner.

  • Thanks so much for compliments Noel. I remember the 1994 Kenwood Cup. It was a great competition. Sayonara, Larry Ellison’s yacht stands out in my mind the most. Unfortunately today it is too expensive to have a competition like that in Hawaii.
