I adore star trails – The process is the same for all of them, long exposure looking south (or north if you’re on the wrong side of the world). They all look different, I just want to look and look and look. I love sittinga and watching the stars, I think star trails condence and capture the magic.,
My astronomy nerd past says – 15 degrees per hour … So about 6 hours for a full 90 degree arc – basically when it starts to get hard to see individual trails. I’d say this one was about and hour, perhaps just a touch less.
David Malin from the AAT took this iconic image on the longest night of the year – 10.5 hours or so, gives you an idea of what’s possible.
James, you are so smart, this one was taken at F2.8 for 1 hour exposure!!! I am planning to do more in this winter, thank you for giving me the tips of doing a whole circle trail. :)
Alex – what a great picture – When i come across a little gem like this, I wonder how I missed it when it was first uploaded. The unusual combination of the violet and orange background makes it even better. +fav for me!
