In her last year Jellybean could no longer hear us so hand signals were needed when it was time to put on her collar and lead at the end of our walks. I hadn’t realized just how much I talked to her every day, how much of our communication was oral, until she could no longer hear. I had to touch her to get her attention so that she could read my body language, my facial expressions. All the words she had learnt were no longer of any use.
