Fountain built of Renaissance style on the plans of the architect of Lyons René DARDEL ( 1796-1871 ) who became afterward a chief architect of the city of Lyon, France. He wanted to reproduce certain details of a well as Philibert de l’ Orme had built to 37 of the street St Jean. She represents an antique small temple sheltering a quite Christian scene: St Jean Baptist baptizing the Christ. The characters were sculptured by Jean-Marie Bonnassieux. Originally, the fountain on this square consisted of a simple octagonal pond with a central column where from the water sprang.
