TOP TEN in Buildings Overgrown
I made this photo in June 2009 in Kalemegdan park in he center of Belgrade. Every time I go there I make very nice photos. So if you visit Kalemegdan park dont miss it. Its a little bit hidden, so if you dont find it, dont hesitate to ask. Almost all people speak English, so they will help you. Two girls from Australia almost missed it when I started conversation and suggested them to follow me and make great photos. They were very happy and surprised they found a such a beautiful church on the place they didnt expect :)…But it wasnt all…on the same place they found 2 of them :)
CHURCH OF THE HOLY MOTHER OF GOD – RUZICA
It is located near north-east walls of Belgrade Fortress, under the Zindan gate. In the time of Despot Stefan Lazarevic’ there was an old church of the same name, which was destroyed when the Turks conquered Belgrade in 1521. What is now the church, was a gunpowder storage in the XVIII century, and turned into a military church in 1867-1869. It was heavily damaged after World War I and renewed in 1925. The iconostasis has been made by Kosta Todorovic’, and the icons it bears were painted by monk Rafailo Momc(ilovic’. The wall paintings were made by a Russian artist Andrey Bitsenko.
