This is one of a series of photos taken by my Sony NEX 5 with a Rokinon 14mm wide angle lens attached. The camera was suspended from a PFK Nighthawk kite about 35 metres above North Fremantle Beach close to Perth in Western Australia.
The shot was taken late one summer afternoon when the local surf lifesaving team was practicing for a surf ski race. Several times they raced through the shallow surf and paddled out to the buoy that marked the turning point of the course. After about the third start I got the hang of it and positioned the camera above the “starting line”.
The colours and textures of the sand and sea are amazing and when contrasted against the multicoloured boards this eye-catching scene is complete.
