This is one of a series of photos taken by my Sony NEX 5 with a Canon 10–22 mm wide angle lens attached. The camera was suspended from a Rokkaku kite about 25 metres above Perth’s City Beach in Western Australia. The line of breakers swept towards the beach in a wide arc, pushing up against the sand and the “stranger on the shore”.

It was a cool early spring day, the sun was low in the sky and the beach was almost deserted. I concentrated on keeping the kite steady and positioned it above the line of breakers where they met the shore and did not notice the stranger pause in his stroll and look up towards the kite. I was fortunate that he paused just long enough for the camera to capture his stare and the long shadow pointing to the corner of the frame.
