A very old photo of my dad taken in an apartment in New York tinkling on a mandolin about 1936. The photo is in very good condition and is not digitally altered.
Very interesting! I always like this type of old instrumentation photography. I used to work for the Gibson/Flatiron Mandolin Company for several years and we would spend hours repairing vintage mandolins in conjunction with our new production. I never really learned to play much on one but really admire the instrument. This is a fantastic image. It seems to tell a very interesting story.
Thanks for stopping by Ken. I never knew my dad played mandolin till I saw this old photo of him only recently. I used to play a little mandolin but my favorite was the ukulele. I always dreamt of owning a Martin Ukulele.
Wow, it is hard to believe this is from 1936. This is such a great picture, and well I love the mandolin, and he is all in a suit like one of Bill Monroe’s bluegrass boys. It must have been pretty special growing up hearing your dad play it.
Oh wait, I just read what you told Ken, I guess you didn’t grow up hearing him play it, oh and I just recently bought a ukulele, I didn’t know Martin made them.
Thanks Tammy…..and glad you had time to stop here……Yes, Martin make ukuleles but I think it’s almost impossible to get hold of one of their better ones. I played one about 30 years ago and it was the most impressive musical instrument that I was fortunate enough to play.

Beautiful shot, Albert. The picture is well preserved, indeed. Reminds me of my Grandfather and his mandolin.
Thanks Mike. This photo was packed away for about 60 years before it saw daylight, so it’s been well preserved.

Thanks,,,I’m pretty sure my dad took this photo of himself on self-timer. He was a very good photographer.
