    Beautiful capture Alan!!

May I ask, how do you like the sigma 10-20? Does it do alright on your Canon. (I have and XSI (450D) and am looking into a wide angle lens and have looked into this one, but trying to get actual user perspectives on it)
    Thanks!

    Hi Jonathan,

I think the 10-20mm is an excellent lens and is my favourite landscape lens. The perspective it gives is dramatic and it’s best when there’s an interesting foreground object you can really get close to. The DoF is amazing and if you use hyperfocal distance focussing ( focus approximately a third of the way into your shot ) and f13-f22 then everything from front to back is in acceptable focus.

I have a Canon 20D which has a crop factor of 1.6x so making the lens a 16-32mm equivalent. There are vignetting problems using the Cokin P filter system at 10 and 11mm, but from 12 and above are fine. It’s best to use Cokin Z, Lee or Hitec filters as these are much larger and don’t cause vignetting.

The chromatic abberation is very well controlled with the Sigma and distortion is acceptable. There has recently been a field test in a magazine done by Charlie Waite ( the famous landscape photographer ) and he chose the Sigma as the best of the bunch for overall value, build and image quality. It’s not perfect but the other lenses in this group all have their particular problems too. I would recommend the Sigma and is one of the most widely used landscape lenses on cameras with a crop factor. Your 450D has a 1.6x crop factor and will be no problem at all with the Sigma.

    Buy it and enjoy.
