My grandfather was an avid photographer. My grandparents built a small darkroom in the back of the house and he controlled every step from film choice, shooting, developing, and printing. He was immaculate in his process.

I remember growing up and looking at the enormous prints. As my years increased I saw more and more in them. His specialty was black & white landscapes. I remember studying the texture and very subtle differences in shading. I would try to find the smallest changes in tone. Over time I gained an appreciation for the works and began to recognize what I liked and why.

I got my first camera in 1978. As kids we got to experiment with shooting and I remember understanding frame at a young age. Later, in high school, I joined yearbook, shot B&W film in an SLR body and worked in the dark room.

Today I shoot a camera that my grandfather could never have imagined. The power of digital SLR never ceases to amaze me. ISO on the fly and myriad post-processing tools are just the beginning.

I love photography because it is a recording of the time, the people, the society, the customs, the fashion, the beliefs, etc. It is fascinating to see into people’s thoughts, actions, and beliefs. My goal in photography is to capture interesting perspectives and in the process, record the time.

I am based in San Francisco, California and I am available for freelance photography assignments.
