The Monumento Nazionale a Vittorio Emanuele II (National Monument of Victor Emmanuel II) or Altare della Patria (Altar of the Fatherland) or “Il Vittoriano” is a monument to honour Victor Emmanuel, the first king of a unified Italy, located in Rome, Italy. This sculpture of the king dominates the forecourt of the monument on the Piazza Venezia in Rome. Taken March 7/09
Wonderful angle on this photo, with outstanding light and composition, Al! I’m wondering if you perhaps have a closer viewpoint of his face?? Long story, really… my father, it is said, was a direct descendant (Yes, another Victor Emanuel although he used the single "m’). Rumor has it too, that they looked much alike! So of course, I’m very curious to see if that’s the case! Either way, a great capture and a wonderful glimpse of Rome! And congratulations on the Feature!
Thank you for your kind words. I’ll check my other shots. I may have a better angle. If so, I’ll post it on the right and let you know.

This is pretty much the same shot on the right as above, but I adjusted the shadows and contrast so you can have a better idea of the facial features.. Sorry I don’t have a better angle but this statue is quite a high one.
