Taken at the Bar U Ranch near Longview, Alberta. July 1/09.
This ranch is famous for producing quality Percheron draught horses and maintaining the breed’s purity.
This is a small Percheron team being used to haul wagons to ferry passengers/tourists around the ranch during the Canada Day celebrations. ‘Small’ is a relative term in this instance as they still have hooves the size of dinner plates.
These amazing horses are bred for pulling heavy loads and have huge feet with hairy fetlocks, strong necks and shoulders and incredibly strong haunches.

  • Thank you Blair. I used this angle to avoid getting the driver and another fellow chatting off to the right.
