Roman Colosseum by

March 7/09
Rome , Italy
This is part of the warren of passages, rooms, cells, under the arena floor which housed the prisoners, gladiators and animals. Note the outer wall that has partially broken away during an earthquake. This place was monstrous! And most of it is still standing! They say they have lost the old roman recipe for these mortar and bricks.

Beautiful shot, Al. Must have been quite the experience visiting this ancient site.

  • Impressive is the word! I would have killed to have the pano feature of my present camera! I took several hand-held pano shots but have no luck stitching them together.

it does amaze me that it is still standing along with all the others and the pyramids etc … excellent shot
  • They are true marvels of architecture but still subject to the ravages of time and nature.
