    wonderful capture Al …
    lovely timing and scene

  • Al Bourassa replied

Thanks Wendy. Digital photography has the advantage of being able to take a lot of shots and delete the ones you don’t want. The downside is the lag between pressing the button and the shutter operating…. it takes some major anticipation and guesswork.

Amazing how you have captured that wave and the way the spray is hanging there. ..is that a complicated setting for the camera. I will have to go down to the seashore and have a go!!
    j:)

  • Al Bourassa replied

If you want stop-action you need to set a high shutter speed, 500 or higher. In this case, it was a pretty bright day so,even on Auto setting, the shutter speed was automatically set high.

  • jacquei

    jacquei

Thank you…I will remember that when I get my new camera, which I should hopefully get end of the week…I will then be off to catch that wave. j:)

  • Al Bourassa replied

Good luck getting all the shots you want. I am very happy with my Sony DSC-H9. It is not expensive, but is feature-packed and light. I would recommend it even for novices who want to be serious about taking good photos. Only three drawbacks, 1) useless owner’s manual 2) almost useless software, and 3) Sony’s proprietary accessories. I recommend you take a beginners photography course or invest in some good photography books. I am partial to Freeman Patterson.

After reviewing on the internet several cameras, I chose the Fuji Finepix S5700 which has 7 megapixels, Zoom 10x, focal length 38-380mm, shutter 4-1/1000 seconds, aperture F3.5 – F3.7…...it was recommended for starting out in photography before graduating to a SLR, also was within my price range. I am looking around for a good book and found Digital Camera Photography for Dummies 6th edition but will look online for the one you suggest. Also looking around for a local course in photography.. Thank you so much for your interest it is so appreciated. jacquei:)
