Clearing Main Street

A series of very old photographs taken by my great-grandfather and grandfather who founded Souvenir Photo Studio in the early 1900’s, in Radville, Saskatchewan.

My father is driving the lead John Deere, followed by his younger brother.
This is circa 1950 or so and all the buildings in evidence are still standing.

Clearing Main Street belongs to the following groups:

I have thoroughly enjoyed this series Al!! Great images and so well preserved!! These tractors reminded me of one that my dad had, same style of cab as well…and the snow removal was identical, all late 1950s!! I guess that dates me too! Lol!! Really excellent

These old photos are very special. As an aside, I visited the Rodin Museum in Paris March 14th and I was amazed they actually had an old scratchy film of him working!

On the open prairie we get snow drifts over the telephone poles, higher than the houses occasionally.

This is sooo cool. (and I don’t mean because of the snow!) I enjoy seeing these kinds of shots – they tell and show us how much work there was for the people just to go about every day. I have one (I haven’t scanned it in yet) of men with snow shovels piling the snow onto trucks to haul it off – and don’t you know they had to shovel it back off the truck too, as it was not a dump truck!! Just to make it so others could go do what they needed to do that day. How many would do that now? They just wait for the city to do the job…. I love that you are sharing these!!
