Public Open Space – Lake St, Northbridge – Perth, Western Australia+

This niche makes an interesting break in the expansive wall alongside the public open space in the entertainment precinct of the city.

The vibrant redevelopment has brought a different mood to the area which is a change for the better!!!

Enjoyed this shot on a warmish spring day.

I live in the Northern Territory of Australia. It is rugged, remote and ancient. I love to capture moments that we may easily miss or pass by. I need to slow down, live life, notice the little things and breathe….. rather than rush to my next meeting through the artificial world. Beauty is all around us, the more you look, the more you see…
Unless stated, my images are straight from the camera with minimal processing.

Wonderful bright strong colour. I like Nightbridge for its vibrancy, except at night.

  • Thanks Mik – the wall really looked great in this light. Yes, it is a nice place in the day, there is a lot to see and the atmosphere is good but I must confess I wouldn’t visit after dark !!!

That does look vibrant. Those hues suit the light and foliage; somehow up here with grey snow and skies — and now sleet — perhaps a tad incongruous. Perfect proportions in your photo, Louise.

  • Yes the light can be brutal here at times, exposing every flaw in every surface. As I look out the window Jan, the sky is this colour today. It’s definitely warming up for us!!!! Thanks for your comments and encouragement Jan, it is always appreciated. :))

A treat for the eyes Lousie. Looking out of my window everything is grey and flat with a heavy drizzle and the temperature is falling. I could do with some of your sunshine.

  • Thanks so much Colin, it was a treat on the eye! Ordinarily I’d go outside and take a blue sky pic for you but it is raining at the moment – warm and humid under a duvet of cloud. :-)

What is it about the extremely simple image which is so appealing? A friend of mine told me recently about miksang, contemplative photography. Maybe that is part of it.

  • Sounds like a great idea – contemplative photography. I guess what appealed to me was the vibrant colour but the simple lines, shadows, shapes. It seems ‘unfussy’ but does have an attraction in that I could look at the plasterwork inside the niche all day!! Contemplative indeed!! Thanks Mike, you and your comments are always appreciated. :-)

Akrotiri, Here’s a blog post I wrote about miksang, shortly after my friend told me about it: http://emptypath.wordpress.com/2011/10/27/miksa.... There are probably other organizations besides this one http://miksang.com/index.html. It just happens to be the first link I found. :-)

  • Excellent. Thanks for the inspiration and the links – sounds just what I need right now. ;-)

  • Thanks very much Celeste! It is a simple piece but I really love that about it. Sometimes the simple lines are the best.
