Step up - Perth Cultural Centre by

bordered by Roe St, Aberdeen St, Beaufort & William Sts – Perth

These are the steps towards the WIlliam St end of the Perth Cultural Centre in Northbridge which have been painted bright yellow and pink as part of the redevelopment process. Its quite funky and certainly a lot more vibrant than the overwhelming brick and concrete paving.

This inner city precinct is near the central Perth railway station and includes the State Library, WA Museum, Art Gallery of WA, The State Theatre and the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts. The redevelopment is designed to create a place that is creative, engaging, inclusive and a memorable experience, rather than just a thoroughfare!!

I live in the Northern Territory of Australia. It is rugged, remote and ancient. I love to capture moments that we may easily miss or pass by. I need to slow down, live life, notice the little things and breathe….. rather than rush to my next meeting through the artificial world. Beauty is all around us, the more you look, the more you see…
Unless stated, my images are straight from the camera with minimal processing.

Great composition to get the nice pattern lined up with the corner of the image.

  • Cheers Tony! I had to wait a while for some folks to walk through the shot!

    Interesting and vibrant!

  • Thanks Betty – yes the colour has made a real difference to the space. It really does feel a more vibrant place and is attracting more people which is good.

    Nice composition Louise, love it!

  • Thanks Colin! We are good at vibrant stuff. No Henry Moore or Black Prince here…. :-(

Lovely diagonal, Louise. I’m intrigued by the writing and trying to read the paving stones or bricks.

  • Thanks Jan! The writing was commissioned as part of the refurbishment and includes some quotes and snippets on various topics to do with number 11, as there are 11 steps. It is a bit hard to follow and is a bit random!!
