Torndirrup National Park: Albany,Western Australia

The Gap is a popular tourist attraction and was carved into this granite by the relentless pounding of the Southern Ocean. There is a fifty metre drop to the water and the rocks are slippery and treacherous. We were there on a stormy day, when The Gap was at it’s deafening best. The ocean was cold and ferocious but filled the air with it’s freshness. Beautiful.

I live in the Northern Territory of Australia. It is rugged, remote and ancient. I love to capture moments that we may easily miss or pass by. I need to slow down, live life, notice the little things and breathe….. rather than rush to my next meeting through the artificial world. Beauty is all around us, the more you look, the more you see…
Unless stated, my images are straight from the camera with minimal processing.

This is a wonderful photo – one of the best I’ve seen of an area I know well. It’s not easy to capture the size and scale of the Gap but you’ve managed it perfectly. A great piece of work.

  • Thank you so much for your comments Peter – i really appreciate it especially as you know the place and conditions. The salt spray was a real challenge between shots!!!

Great capture Louise. As you know, I was there this week and took about 100 photos just of the gap. Love how the water falls down the rocks after the big splash. It was fascinating; could’ve stood there for hours.

  • Thanks Elaine!! Yes, it is a beautiful spot – I love the “raw-ness” of the place – it is pure nature at its best. Hope you got some good weather!!

Really nice, love the rugged feel.

  • The southern coast around Albany is renowned for its rugged rocks and ocean. I love it in winter better than any other time, it seems so moody. Thanks Colin!

Beautifully captured, wonderful colour and detail.

  • Thanks Steve! The recent rainshower certainly helped bring out the colour in the rocks. Bonus!!
