A beautiful sight out through King George Sound, across to Michaelmas and Breaksea Island: Albany, Western Australia.
It was from this viewpoint that the people of Albany farewelled the great convoy of ships that gathered in the Sound prior to leaving for Gallipoli. The first and second ANZAC convoys left from Albany and this was their final sight of Australian soil – it later became the first place a dawn service was held in commemoration of their sacrifice.
Lest we forget.
