The Lily Dutch Windmill - Borden, WA by

Featured in – ‘WA Red Bubbles’ – 4Sep2011

This 16th Century replica dutch windmill was built by hand by the owner, Mr Pluen Hizert, using recycled bricks and timber from the old Albany Jetty in Western Australia. It is a fully operational flour mill. The Stirling Ranges provide a wonderful misty backdrop.

I live in the Northern Territory of Australia. It is rugged, remote and ancient. I love to capture moments that we may easily miss or pass by. I need to slow down, live life, notice the little things and breathe….. rather than rush to my next meeting through the artificial world. Beauty is all around us, the more you look, the more you see…
Unless stated, my images are straight from the camera with minimal processing.

Thanks so much for the feature – this is quite a sentimental photo to me so it means a lot that others like it!!

I was here on 5th September; my husband was going to treat me to lunch, but we found out they haven’t done lunches for at least 2 years. But I was happy to stop and take photos. I think the mountains were more dramatic for you. :)

  • Thanks Eve! We were there on a fine but very CRISP morning in late winter so the fog had cleared but the mist had not yet lifted off the Stirlings. It was a real treat to see it like that.

Lovely shot Louise. We visited WA in June 2004 but did not have time to explore this area properly. A revisit is planned some day!

  • It is well worth a visit, such a lovely area with wide open vistas. glorious.
