Have you been down there recently? Have some of the eagles migrated without Jean now?

  • We haven’t been down in Homer since this summer … hopefully we will be making a trip down around the first part of next year (1st to mid January). When we went down last winter, they were still coming from across the bay, they weren’t congregating like they did when Jean was alive though, so I am hoping that we will get lucky when we are down there in January. We generally take in those ‘Land’s End Winter Getaways,’ but if the Eagles aren’t there, we really don’t have much interest in driving down and spending time there. Thanks again and Take Care ~ Deb ~ ☺

Another good one. Just beautiful. Is it a favorite place for the Eagle to come to???

  • THANK YOU … truly appreciated my friend!! Kachemak Bay has quite an Eagle population, you don’t see many during the summer months but come winter you will see them perched along the beach on Homer Spit. Jean Keene (aka The Eagle Lady) used to live in a campground on the Spit, and she used to feed them (around 500+ Eagles during the winter months), she passed away early 2009. The bond she had with these wild Eagles was something to see, she watched over them as they watched over her, you could drive by her compound at anytime of the day and you would see at least one Eagle perched on a piece of driftwood at the edge of her compound, (she could look right out her sliding door at that Eagle perch). Now the Eagles are a little lost without her, and we miss the times that we had whenever we would drive down for a few days to visit with Jean and photograph her Eagles … those are moments that will be with us forever. Take Care ~ Deb ~ ☺
