This wreck of a loco heads up the Kyiv – Odesa Express as it pulls out of Kyiv Pasazhyrs’kyi on Saturday afternoon. The windscreen is smashed, the mirrors and windscreen wipers are missing, the bodywork is totally corroded and the driver looks about 17. But not to worry, he’s got two mates in the cab to help him.
If all goes well, it will eventually manage the 655km in 11h14m, an average speed of 58km/h.
Photo taken at Kyiv main passenger station, Ukraine, July 2011, as plans for a photo blog of travelling round the world by train start to take shape.

Very cool effect. Nicely done!
This looks like something from my childhood… Wait a minute… it IS! This is the type I remember and rode! :) What, they have newer ones now?…
Nice HDR too!
Thanks Lina. This was probably the worst of the ones I saw during the 3 hours I spent at the station. There are some newer ones but they are still “traditional” types.

OMG, you been in Kiev. How is my city? great image, I would love to see more
Many thanks, Luda. Your city is still a wonderful place. However, the words I have for those few who have stolen the country’s wealth from the people are not fit to print here…
