Sidi Kaouki by

This somewhat surreal view is from Sidi Kaouki, a few kilometres south of Essaouira on the Atlantic coast of Morocco. The village is named after a 19th century wandering holy man whose shrine is in the marabout, the building in the picture. The camels, sand-castle builders and bikinis are more recent phenomena.

Sidi Kaouki is also renowned for its wind and waves and is thus a well known spot for windsurfers and kitesurfers.

Processing: HDR generated from five exposures (-2, -1, 0, +1, +2) of a single image using Photomatix.
