Really well done – I’m jealous! Care to share any of the details??
AJM Photography replied
Thanks. This is drips of milk with a little food colouring added, dropping onto glass. I’ll be happy to tell you more if you have specific questions…

I have tried this a few times and no luck – Hats off to you, I truly know how difficult this type of shot is…Well done I love the colour.
AJM Photography replied
Many thanks. The funny thing is that once you get a good setup, you can achieve a pretty good rate of success, without any fancy electronics that a lot of such shots use…
mklue
Thanks for the info (above). Since you offered, I’d LOVE to know the lighting details!
AJM Photography replied
Nothing particularly special regarding the lighting: I used a cheapo flash unit (a sort of SB800 clone) connected to the camera hot-shoe with a cable, mounted on a separate tripod at about 45 degrees to the camera. But in the past I’ve got perfectly good shots using on-board flash. (There’s a pic of the setup on another site, but is it politic to put a link to another site from RB?)
mklue
OK, I was guessing 45 degrees (to the left). Now for the rest of the set-up – clear glass with black fabric/posterboard underneath? Sorry to keep bothering you with questions, but I’m really fascinated by this kind of shot.
AJM Photography replied
Hey, you are welcome to ask questions! Generally I’ve not been providing much info on RB cos I do that elsewhere, but I’m happy to tell you whatever you want to know…
Yes, flash to the left. Clear glass beneath. Something black beneath the glass and behind the shot – I used black art paper and black bin-liners here. I did bounce the light back a bit as well, by placing a reflector directly opposite the flash (you really wanna know? A piece of silver card from a pack of my partner’s stockings…)
mklue
Aha – I thought I detected a little bit of bounce in that flash. Thanks for taking the time to fill me in on the details!!
mklue
oh yeah, and I love the part about the reflector – you can’t imagine the things I’ve used !
