In loving memory of Golda.

This beautiful dog Golda, and gracious woman, Sarah were having their last walk at their favourite spot, atHeritage Park, in Mission, BC. You see, Golda was 11 years old and suffered from cancer. This was Golda’s last walk.

I had my camera on a tripod at the park, with 2 dogs. I offered to take their last portrait of them, if she minded. I asked Golda to kiss Sarah, and this is the result. I photographed them walking back to the car. I trembled as I captured them on camera. I cried all the way home. The loss was enormous for this lady.

Later that evening, Golda’s vet came to her home, and she laid on her favorite pillow and was let go.

Sarah and I connected in a way I cant explain. We embraced at the park, with so many tears. Tears for stranger, tears that stayed with me. I could feel her loss. We have stayed in contact by email, and she would like this image. For some reason I have hesitated. My settings were not set for this. Enough excuses now!

Tell me what you think of this image, please.

This is the final version of “Last Kiss”

  • Laurie, it was an amazing experience and still affects me now. I am to picky and haven’t sold too many pieces. Orignal isn’t perfect. Should I have this version printed? Anyone? Ideas? I want to do this right…Thank you Laurie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Annie this is such a touching, precious capture. I cried reading your narrative. You captured the love between these two souls so well. I pray that Sarah is slowly but surely healing from Golda’s absence. I also pray that, as trite as it may sound, that Sarah knows what she did was for Golda’s well being. Beautiful work Annie. (This capture is perfect to be printed the way it is. I think Sarah would treasure it.)

  • Thank you so much! I am so touched at the response! We do love our dogs!

This is so very poignant. By all means, make sure Sarah gets a copy of this as I’m sure she’ll treasure it always.

  • Sarah has asked me to have this printed, she wants to frame this image. I pray she will be happy with this and it brings her years of good memories.

Please be sure to give a copy of this touching image to Sarah. If I were Sarah, I would treasure it forever. It demonstrates the strong bond between humans and companion dogs; what better memento of two shared beloved lives is there than this? It is difficult for me to write through my tears for Golda’s passing as well as my own grief over companion animals I have loved only to swallow the bitter pill of parting from them too soon. This is a beautiful image, Annie, one with which animal lovers will all connect. I think I’ll go give my dog a big hug.

  • Do that………..I shall give Gizmo a hug too! Thank you!!!!

Annie, I was so touched by this image and your story behind the portrait … Sarah and Golda were so lucky that you happened into their lives that day … you captured a moment that Sarah will never share with her beloved dog Golda again but by doing so you gave her a moment that she will always cherish through this beautiful image. (Don’t be so critical of this image … it is priceless just as it is especially to the two people who matter most, you and Sarah). Take Care ~ Rick & Deb ~ ☺

  • Thank you Rick & Deb, I am my worst critic! It is off to the printers…….yikes! Very exciting!
