The Missionary(Foretelling of)

A story illustration(look in my writing) of the first meeting with the Missionaries which was foretold hundreds of years before the actual event. After this encounter our ancient world was gone and we had to deal with the new one. Any culture must be dynamic, adapt or die.

The Missionary(Foretelling of) belongs to the following groups:

Complex Simplicity of Art, All Things Poetic, Artistic, Philosophical, Art Inspired by Dreams, Back In Black ( sorry~NO PHOTOGRAPHY), Myths, Legends and Fairytales, Religious Art & Photography and Spiritual Art Available for sale as

Once more, the simplicity of this painting in both artistic ability and the message it conveys is totally unique and very beautiful

Powerful colours especially the black and white and the detail on the bark of the trees .

thank you Nick; in fact there is quite a few transparent layers to this but you can’t see the ‘effect ’ here or in reproduction. the sky has 5 diferent shades & hue of blue over a black base.

Another great painting. I am a Christian, but I certainly do not support the way the Church has behaved over the centuries and I don’t think Christ does either. I read of how the missionaries destroyed the totem poles and I can’t forgive them for this. Peace, love, compassion, tolerance … none of these existed amongst the missionaries who violated the First Nation’s culture … well, that’s my opinion anyway.

Alot of it was innocent though stemming from what they believed and were taught. That is why we should always know the Man before meeting.

Sensational image Arnold – deeply imbued with symbology and ancient spirtuality….

  • Arnold Isbister replied

thank you Thomas; there is a story behind it too – look at ‘writings’ and “The Missionary”.

i’m curious about what media you used for this

  • Arnold Isbister replied

This is acrylic on paper but a lot of glazes or translucent layers. Really hard to photograph…..

This piece succeeds on so many levels, I’m not even sure where to start. You’ve created an environment and occupied it with habitants and it all holds together. It’s cohesive in it’s style, its wonderful in its composition, you’ve captured space and depth and are totally dead on in narrative.

Bravo! I love that it’s not “photo realistic”. It’ more successful IMO than much of the “realism” I see around.

Look forward to seeing more. _
