ink, watercolour pencil on A4 cartridge paper 2010

This was inspired by my mother’s “rock garden” full of succulents. We tease her mercilessly about it, but she stands firm, and now has some lovely succlents growing including these that look like rosettes. I have no idea what these are actually called, but they are pretty!

succulent, rose, rosette, red, green, flower, cactus

Mother Nature is my muse, and I feel privileged to have the opportunity to capture her beauty on paper or canvas.

I like to experiment with media and subject matter, and am always creating, wherever I am.

I’m not a succulent fan but this is a wonderful painting – love that background that contrasts in approach but harmonises with colour

  • LOLOL…I don’t like them much either, and my Dad hates them and we always tease mum about her collection! So I thought it was time I did a painting of one just for her, and the shapes and colours in these rosette sort of succulents are pleasing to the eye.
I love that you have commented on my background in this painting! This is something I have been working on lately, it started with inspiration from fellow bubbler Barbara Glatzeder. Her calendar of flowers inspired me to create a series using her photos (with her permission)….it has sent me off in a new direction which I am really enjoying!
