“Foolish child, you’re not near good enough…
You lack any smarts,” they’d snort.
“You’ll never make anything
Out of yourself,”
Amused at the torture they wrought.
“And what’s more,
Forget a fine future…
For you’re nothing
Just a no good
Foolish child, why bother?
We’ve written you off
No good college will have you
You’re a failure already
In pitiful 6th grade elementary.”
They laughed and they snickered
Grotesque in their joy
At pegging that flunky
The one with no goals.
But what they didn’t know
What their brains could not fathom
The fool had fooled them
And this fool had at last won.
A scholar against odds,
This fool would become
And wave flying colors at graduation…
From NYU, nonetheless, the diploma’s the proof!
Now that worthless young girl
Has won countless awards
Recognition in television galore!
And where are those naysayers?
Those stone cold false prophets?
All back at square one
Still crushing the young.
Now old old and grey
And wasting away
Never knowing this fool’s paradise….
(Reflecting on my severely unfortunate scholastic experience from 6th-12th grades at
The Seven Hills School… Funny how you start believing you must truly be an idiot after they drill it into your head year after year. Thankfully…
New York University saved the day!!!)
