Well, sort of…
We encountered this rather aggressive rooster yesterday when we took a wrong turn down a quiet, random side street. As we turned around at the dead end, we were faced with a gang of chickens. Literally. Two hens and this very forward rooster. We stopped our car to investigate and the three of them rushed us as we got out of the car to say hi. (I know, I know.. but how could we resist not encountering these magnificent creatures in such an unexpected place???)
The rooster suddenly flew up to the roof of my car and as he perched proudly he began screaming “COCK-A-DOODLE-DOO!!!!” at us multiple times.
They all seemed very eager to get to know us, following us around as we spoke to them and I took pictures. The rooster insisted on getting as close to me as possible, making it difficult to take his picture, but I managed to snap a few in focus as he bobbed his head back and forth and back and forth. The funny thing was, when we decided it was time to go, the gang of three kept disappearing under our car, thus holding us hostage. Held hostage. By livestock.
It was a surreal experience, one that Ava exclaimed, “I will never forget this… EVER!”

PS, hours after we managed to escape by distracting them, we could not resist (I know, I know) returning to the scene from the Twilight Zone to see if they were still there. To our utter delight they were still waddling around, still in a pack and eager for more attention. This time we came bearing bread in the form of a bun from Ava’s hamburger. We tore off tiny morsels and the chickens excitedly pecked them up. My rooster even took some directly from my fingers. All in all, it was a magical, surreal experience, one that neither one of us will ever forget.

Natural light, no crop, no edit.

The world is full of magical photo ops…

All you need to grab them is a zest for life, an eye for the extraordinary and that trusty camera of your choice.

Raise the sturdy weight of it to your face … close one eye then … lower your finger upon the shiny black button… hold your breath then… hear that hypnotic click and suddenly, dynamite explodes! the stars collide! and maybe, just maybe you’ve captured a magnificent moment in time… How thrilling is that?!?
