Found this ancient stack of “home movies” (circa 1970) recently that begged to be captured, so I pulled one out and grabbed my new macro lens.

It’s such a treat to thread the wiry old film through our equally cro-magnon projector, flip the still working light switch and point it toward any flat surface (white cardboard works great) and reminisce. Everything about what leaps forth on the silent screen amazes me. The old cars, outfits, everything flickering past to the tune of the tick tick tick sound emanating from the machine.
I love to show them to Ava, who gets a kick out of the whole process. When she was really little I used to tell her that mommy was born when dinosaurs roamed the earth. She’d look at me wide-eyed and gasp, “how did you get away from them?” I told her I’d run really fast and hide in caves. She actually believed me for a long time. So… very… sweet. (Sigh…)

The world is full of magical photo ops…

All you need to grab them is a zest for life, an eye for the extraordinary and that trusty camera of your choice.

Raise the sturdy weight of it to your face … close one eye then … lower your finger upon the shiny black button… hold your breath then… hear that hypnotic click and suddenly, dynamite explodes! the stars collide! and maybe, just maybe you’ve captured a magnificent moment in time… How thrilling is that?!?
