Honest Abe, The Great Emancipator by

Abraham Lincoln, 16th president of the United States of America sits in contemplation overlooking the National Mall on a warm evening in August 2012.

Intricately carved from 28 blocks of white marble, from head to toe he’s 19 feet tall and weighs in at 159 tonnes. The Lincoln Memorial was dedicated in 1922 and has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since October 1966

Sony DSC-HX1

My pictures are taken with a Sony DSC-HX1. What you see is pretty much what comes from the memory card, with maybe a touch of rotation and or cropping.
I probably wouldn’t be taking so many pictures if it weren’t for the camera. It has been worth every penny as it has captured some great memories since I got it in 2009.
Feel free to comment on any of the pictures. I’m all for learning how to improve.

    Great POV and angle..well done.

  • Thanks very much. I only had one of those little hand held tripods and the only solid thing to sit it on was the floor. A few others were there with their proper tripods whilst I’m squatting down on the floor, getting under feet :) Not sure I would have got the epitaph on any other way than this though.

What a larger-than-life statue of a great person. i never knew he was a vampire-hunter too! the things one learns from movies!! i love the angle – I’ve also seen this but at the time didn’t have my camera and used a worst than P&S camera. thanks for the memories

    SO cool!

  • Thanks, Nicole. DC has so many things going for it if you like your memorials, statues and amazing architecture that justs shouts out to be photographed.

What a beautiful capture and perspective!

  • Thanks for your comment. Maybe shouldn’t be bothered that I did not have a bigger tripod after all :)
