A Prayer at the Memorial by Barrie Woodward
Clear

Currently unavailable for purchase

I believe this is a Praying Mantis, capable of flight, if it isn’t please let me know what you think it is.
It’s the first time I’ve seen an insect so large and the first time I’ve seen one in the wild. There is a glass panel wall around the outsude of the Air Force Memorial, near The Pentagon, in Arlington County. This was one of two of the insects basking in the sun on a very hot day there.

My pictures are taken with a Sony DSC-HX1. What you see is pretty much what comes from the memory card, with maybe a touch of rotation and or cropping.
I probably wouldn’t be taking so many pictures if it weren’t for the camera. It has been worth every penny as it has captured some great memories since I got it in 2009.
Feel free to comment on any of the pictures. I’m all for learning how to improve.

You got a Praying Mantis… Great capture!

  • Thanks, they’re quite big up close. Glad I got to see it in the wild.
