The traditional view is that deserts are full of dunes and drifting sands, but at the edges of the Sahara the land can be flat and stony.
For miles around there’s nothing but a flat, bleak, landscape, then suddenly there’s a hint of life – in this case a tree at the edge of Erg Chebbi in the Moroccan Sahara, the westermost point of the sandy desert.
