I was astounded by the number of fabric shops like this one in Ryadh.

The displays look like clothes on the mannequins, but they are very expertly presented lengths of cloth (you can see the rolls on the shelves in the background).

What is particularly fascinating about the display is that women are only ever seen in public wearing black abayas, with just the occasional glimpse of a designer trainer to give a hint of colour .. beautiful fabrics and fashions but no audience to show them off to.
