Blame

Why does the victim feel the blame?
Knowing they’ve done nothing of shame
Look at a parent whose child has died
Admonishing themselves as they cried
They simply cannot understand
Fate’s cruel and random hand

Why does the victim feel the blame?
Knowing they’ve done nothing of shame
The mugged old man prone on the street
Struggling to rise to unsteady feet
Feeling the fault must lie within
Somehow he’d caused the robber to sin

Why does the victim feel the blame?
Knowing they’ve done nothing of shame
The women attacked because of their sex
Uncaringly left to become nervous wrecks
Even if accepting they’ve done no wrong
Emotional recovery takes far too long

Why does the victim feel the blame?
Knowing they’ve done nothing of shame
Could it be because they’re inherently good?
That they can’t blame the ones they should
These good people struggle to comprehend
The evil that this world can send

PC attitudes seem to place the blame on victims rather than perpetrators. Why do the victims so often accept this?
