The first day of August found me, along with fellow bubblers, Alan E Taylor and his better half Elizabeth at the 2010 Cromford Steam Rally in Derbyshire. Once again I was lucky and blessed with a lovely day as well as an excellent turnout.
One of the many commercial vehicles of display was MBF 634 a 1961 Thornycroft Swiftsure HL/JR6 Brewer’s Dray. This was one of the very last vehicles built by Thornycroft before their takeover by AEC.
This has very special interest to me as I was brought up drinking Joules Bitter, brewed just a few miles down the road at Stone in Staffordshire. I saw this dray or one of its sisters on many occasions. The owner tells me that Joules is to brewed again in the near future at a micro brewery in Market Drayton.
