Been a (long) while since I uploaded anything. I’ve been working on a year-long photo-essay. This is one of the shots from it, and I just felt I should share it.

This spectacularly beautiful rose is one of many in the private garden I’m documenting. It was in shadow, but side-lit by a tiny shaft of afternoon sun. The flower-head was covered by many tiny flies, and I’d been carefully wafting them away just prior to each shot. I had no idea until I reviewed the shots later that this little guy had snuck back for another view. It brings a smile to my face each time I look at this image.

Canon EOS30D, EF17-40mm F4L @36mm, ISO200, f4.0, 1/1000, tripod and remote shutter, no filter

Absolutely spectacular. I love the light coming through the petals. Looks like that pesky little fly decided he was staying.
