Awesome close-up Aengus, I’d love to see one of these.
Gotta try and get up to Sydney and beyond for some diving.

Glad you like it Jim! I’m a little bit red-green colour blind so they are near impossible for me to find since they blend so well, but this lad was the exception, although it took me 6 dives and someone telling me where he was (Almity1 I think?) to find him.
Your welcome in Sydney anytime and will have no shortage of buddies to show you around, and if coming up we can organise a mini-road trip taking in Nelson bay and Fishrock as well.

This picture looks great on page 11 of Issue 6/2008 of the AustralAsia Scuba Diver Magazine. WELL DONE AENGUS!

Have you had many other images published in magazines?

  • Yeah, it came up well, happy with that one. I’ve had a few random pics published in SDA, maybe a couple a year otherwise not much published although I give free rein to AMCS ( and a few other org’s to use pics and they are regularly used in their publications.
I’ve also written a couple of articles for UWPMag ( They are always looking for contributors so if you have something to write about and some pics to compliment they would love to hear from you!
There isn’t any money to be made in it (UWPMag split donations but I donate my share to Peter’s pub kitty) but its a good feeling when your stuff is well received.

Excellent, Aengus. One day I’m going to have to find one of those pipehorses at Bare Island.

  • I’ve easily done 12 dives where my sole, one and only, exclusive goal was to find one…never did it!
Well kinda never did it …with exception of above, any I saw were pointed out to me and the guy above I located after being told where exactly it was.
Had a good look last Sunday as well, no joy although I know a few were literally in front of me…c’est la vie!
