Yes, that is a real gecko, not a paper cut-out.
George is one of my crested geckos. He was climbing up the lampshade and I thought it looked interesting, so I photographed it and this is the result =].

And one tiny little suggestion for you, because this is really beautiful and the subtle drop off in the light which fades away at the base of the lamp is great – I would just consider burning in that section on the bottom right, just so it doesn’t retract from the luminous green in all that blackness.
