The Tanzanian Superman by Adrian Paul

With his traditional cape flowing behind him in true Superrman style and holding his herdsman’s stick, this cyclist is obviously in a hurry to get somewhere.

This cyclist is a member of the Barabaig tribe, the main tribal group centred around the Katesh and Mt Hanang area of Northern Central Tanzania.

The herding stick he is carrying is an important symbol of manhood, while the bicycle is a symbol of his wealth within his tribe..

Nicely caught! The flowing cape gives a sense of his speed.

  • He was having the time of his life – I think he was showing off for our benefit.
