Thistle Cove, Cape Le Grand National Park, WA

This is one of those places that is so spectacular in its beauty that it seems too good to be true BUT it is true. This is a ‘what you see is what you get’ type image. The scene is real, the colours are real and the contrasts are real.

Thistle Cove is one of the many beautiful features of Cape Le Grand National Park. 631km south-east of Perth and 56km east of Esperance, Western Australia.

The largely granite shoreline and white sand beaches is a picturesque feature of the area. The park is a used for fishing, off-roading, tourism, and hiking.

Beaches within the Park include those at Lucky Bay, Rossiter Bay, Hellfire Bay, Le Grande Beach and Thistle Cove.

The islands and waters to the south of the park are known as the Recherche Archipelago Nature Reserve, another protected area of the Archipelago of the Recherche and nearby coastal regions. The Cape Arid National Park is located to the east. (Wikipedia)

I can also tell you (for no extra cost!) that the area where you park to walk down to this viewpoint is just one mass of wildflowers – especially trigger plants – during spring. Tremendous photo and this must have been taken during the morning because I know from experience that later in the day when the sun gets round it wouldn’t be easy to get a shot like this. Back in my younger days I actually walked the whole length of this beach! Could spend hours gazing at this – great photo. Peter

Yes, there were a lot of wildflowers on that track. I have some photos of them & will upload a couple at some stage. It was indeed morning & I was lucky that there was not a soul on the beach when I took the photo. We would have also walked it but there was just too much else to see on that day in the national park.

I can agree with for everything you say about Thistle Cove. I took a photo from the same view point a few years ago.

  • Adrian Paul replied 22 days ago

Thanks Dennis. I wonder how many thousands of shots have been taken from this spot!!

    nice shot Adrian.
i don’t agree totally with your “what you see” comment- because in person it’s even more stunning! :) i don’t think there are too many photos that have managed to capture the full beauty.
but very nice work with this image :

This is a magnificent shot of a magnificent vista. Lovely! And I’m mentally running barefoot on the brilliant white sand….

  • Adrian Paul replied 20 days ago

Thank you Loujay. Yes, this is indeed a magnificent spot and the sand is the purest white sand in Australia.
