June 15, 2011 – Canada Post Office, Georgia Street, Vancouver BC Canada

A truck gets turned over and set on fire after rioters manage to open the gas tank of the truck. A first, out of the many cars and buildings that were set on fire and destroyed that day. Many buildings were looted and destroyed, with people being caught on camera leaving stores with handful of stolen goods.

this photo was published in CTV’s online website pretty much all across Canada…

Great shot of an absolute disgrace. I saw this on the news over here in Europe this morning and thought it was another riot in the Middle East, not Vancouver! These idiots should hang their heads in shame. Well captured.

  • Unfortunately yes, it had to be in our city. See, in the Middle East, one can almost justify the riots that are happenning there. This one can never be
justified, whether it’s the enthusiast fans or the same terrorists that have
destroyed another city of Canada during the G8 summit, specially as this one was over a stupid little hockey game and a chrome cup to drink out of.
I apologize in behalf of my city.

You should apologize for nothing, I’m sure if you could have, you would have stopped this, but… the mob rules.

Nice journalistic capture, I wondered if Vancouver would make it’s way to RB, just not this soon, congrats regardless, to the Canucks for a wonderful season

  • Thanks. the good news is, and i wasn’t able to photograph it soon enough, was that half of our city, like normal people decided to volunteer and take part in the clean up. it was a great site to see. kinda weird driving on the roads knowing what happened the night before, but atleast it’s over now. glad you like the photo.

A fine moment, eh? Personally, I don’t think this had too much to do with the fans, more likely some drunken yobs just looking for the opportunity to riot. A great capture, however, Adrian.

  • it was a fine moment when the game started, up until the last few minutes of the third period. and yes, it was mostly anarchists they said, that started the
riot. no Canucks fan would go to watch the game and be prepared with crazy riot stuff. i hope they get arrested. i heard on the news that 150 people were arrested, and several injured. so much so that Saint Paul’s hospital went on code orange..

Fantastic capture Adrian. My sister, who lives in Vancouver told me about these riots – over a hockey game! I was in disbelief until I saw the pictures; what a sad day.

  • thanks :) it wasn’t mostly about a hockey game. It’s believed that a small group of anarchists had actually planned this, whether the team won or, as we all know now, lost. it just sucks that the fans, mostly young people, decided to get in on the act and that exponentially raised the chaos and damage this whole riot caused. but the good side is, up until now, people are still getting arrested. atleast the police didn’t totally let this one slip. thanks for visiting!

What a great news photo mate.

I was wondering about the reasons for the riots. I had not known how extreme they were..

  • it’s just a bunch of thugs that came here to Vancouver (atleast that’s what the police said to the media) and started everything. they had plans and weapons.
it escalated because most of the public got in on the act.
