Face in the Crowd

It surges randomly, the ebb and flow of the movement as bodies jostle for space. All the voices rising louder to be heard, eyes darting around looking around nervously for an easy route through the mayhem.

She stands in their midst, watching the faces pass by..

Young girl, purple and black hair ; searching hopelessly for a familiar face
Drunken suit ; “this phone is shit I told them I need a…”
Red lipstick; deep in thought, staring blankly at a man that desperately wants her to listen
Cowboy hat; confident and oblivious, hint of a smile
Pale man, eyes downcast, long hair; slips through the crowd like a ghost

An elbow catches her, a hip bumps her, she steps back to avoid oncoming traffic and finds herself pushed against opposing forces. Unseen, unnoticed… an obstacle on the path for another drink, or an exit. They circulate, never still, never far away as she guards her drink… “I love this place” she joyfully shares between curses.
