Magazine/Promo Shoot
I was lucky enough to get the chance to shoot well outside the norm last week, and get some shots together for Melusina a jaw droppingly gifted belly dancer from Melbourne. All going well, these shots will be gracing the pages of Dance Australia magazine, as well as the Underbelly site
This was my first collaboration with costume designer/art director/hair stylist/makeup artist Loren Bell… needless to say, I was incredibly happy with the results. This marks the first of many shoots we have planned. Coming up is the album cover for a local punk band, some kooky fairytales, and maybe even a pinhole shoot… nothing like having folks to nudge you along in the right direction
To say these are a departure from my normal style of photography would be a massive understatement. Shot at the Polly Bar in Fitzroy (on the advice of dear Jessica Tremp), lighting was the biggest challenge. Once I got my head around what to bounce off where, I think it went really well
Here are some of the shots

Great images Adrian. The lighting is wonderful and as testament to your skills doesn’t appear in the final images to have challenged you. A beautifully consistent set of results that shows that if you get everything right then post work is rarely needed.
Beautiful.

Thank you for the kind words – I can’t tell you how much Jager shot night boosted my confidence. I wouldn’t have got to this point, or through this photo-block without you and Jess supporting me

A really nice locations Adrian and well done

Loved working at Polly Bar, it really is endless possibilities there. $50 an hour makes it more frantic than it needs to be with hair/costume changes… learned a few things about how organised to be before starting the shoot!

Gorgeous…..clever use of location…..sultry sexy yum, I’d say….

$50 per hour seems reasonable. If only they would throw in beers… What times do they make the bar available? There is a sweet bar in the city I am trying to get access to at the moment but the times are all wrong for me.
Adrian Carmody replied
They only do weekdays, from 10am-4pm
Madame Brussels has a very cool back room which you may be able to get access to on a Saturday/Sunday

Adrian, love the shots. I understand about the frantic hair/costume change part. Always nice to not have to rush but you’ve made it seem very serene here.
Adrian Carmody replied
I don’t take credit for the calm, serene look. Mel was incredibly professional, and took direction well. Her ability to hold a cripplingly uncomfortable pose for minutes at a time, thanks to the oblivious photographer who just wanted a quick lighting adjustment was awe inspiring. That sword ain’t light!

Adrian! These are wonderful!
Well done on making something so luscious =)

Thanks lovely!
It was hard not to get a bit of lusciousness out of those surroundings, and such an exquisite a model
